The Texas Committee on Alcoholism, Incorporated, was chartered on October 4, 1951 as a non-profit scientific, charitable and educational corporation designed to helpimplement Texas Governor Allan Shivers' plan to study and submit recommendations todeal with alcoholism as a disease. Correspondence, a treasurer's report andother reports, a CPA audit, and newsletters, dating 1951-1954, document the workof the committee.
